The Next Monster In Law story

My husband and I had been married for about a year and a half when we decided to move to my husbands home town. His parents asked us if we wanted to move into their basement and save some money until we could find a place to live. We were very low on money at the time and took them up on it. It  was around Christmas time and I was trying to find a job. In a small town there are not very many jobs and nothing in my field of study. Both in laws kept telling me to take any job. I told them I did not spend four years in college to work for minimum wage. They got up set with me and told me I thought I was too good for honest work. I tried to explain that I wanted to work in my field of study and they said my college degree was a waste of my time. I could not believe what I was hearing.
The next thing that happened was my mother in law sat me down one day to tell me that I had changed her son. I asked her what she meant by that and I got an ear full. First of all my husband had majored in education and coaching, but when he graduated there were no teaching jobs out there.  He was approached by someone who told him he should be in sales and so he decided to sell insurance. Now, my Dad worked for an insurance company, but with their computers. She assumed that since my Dad worked for an insurance company that I had talked him into selling insurance and not coaching. Little did she know that my husband had come to me with the idea. I was so shocked that she would accuse me of such a thing. I cannot remember all the things she unloaded on me, but there were several. All I could do was sit there and say that she was wrong. She did not believe me. My husband took her aside and told her she was wrong and to never talk to his wife like that. As usual I kept my mouth shut and did not fire back.
The next day something else happened, but I'm running out of time and I will tell you later what his Dad did to us. Until next time, Dawn

Monster In Laws

I have started this blog to help me and anyone else out there cope with their Monster In Laws if they are unlucky enough to have some. If anything just posting the things they do to us will help us to vent all the things we have had to endure.
I have to say that my husband has been the best husband and has done everything right by always defending me. Let me tell you a little background so you can get a better handle of who we are and where we come from. I grew up in Chattanooga TN and my husband grew up about an hour and a half from me in a rural country town where we live today. We met while attending college in another city.
It all started when my soon to be in laws decided they wanted to meet my Dad. My parents divorced when I was 18 so I only have a relationship with my Dad and brother. They invited him to their home for lunch one Sunday afternoon. I was so nervous, because I knew our parents were from two different worlds. Just as soon as we sat down to eat, my soon to be father in law asked my Dad to tell them a little about himself. I was amazed that they were going to let him talk since they seemed to always do all the talking. I learned early on that if I wanted to say anything I had to interrupt. My Dad told them that he attended UTC in Chattanooga and worked as a Computer Analyst. My soon to be father in law looked at him and said, "I am an electrician and I've done pretty well as a working man, (as if what my Dad did was not work). I think he didn't like it that my Dad had gone to college and he didn't. My Dad just agreed with him and let the comment pass. The next thing out of my soon to be in laws mouth was, " I hope you know that we will not be associating with you after the marriage." I saw the look on my Dad's face and was not sure what he was going to say. When he asked why, he was told that he did not think it wise to become friends since the marriage may not work out and he didn't want to take sides......WHAT? I did not know what to say or do at that point and that should have been a sign to me what I was in for. Of course I love my husband and thank God everyday that he is not like his parents. This is the first story of my Monster In Laws, stay posted and I'll be laying it all out there. Please feel free to share any horror stories you may have. This is just the beginning of mine and it really gets much worse. Until next time, Dawn
